Hiking to valley Veľký Sokol / Túra do rokliny Veľký Sokol, by @photoparadise

I wrote the article in two languages. In English and Slovak.

The Veľký Sokol gorge is my favorite gorge in the Slovak Paradise National Park. There are two reasons for this. This gorge is not as well known as, for example, Suchá Bela or Piecky gorge. Thanks to this, it is not visited by so many tourists and they do not form in front of the ladders of the council, as it is in Suchá Belá in the summer.

Secondly, it seems to me that this gorge is one of the wildest and best-preserved gorges and there is not so much noticeable human intervention. This may be related to lower traffic to this place. Although ladders are of course part of this gorge and they help to overcome obstacles.

We leave the car in the Píla car park and follow the green tourist sign along the meadow to the Sokol mountain hut. It is 17.2 km in front of us with a total elevation gain of 575 meters. There are still drops of dew on the grass and I was fascinated by the yellow flowers around which we pass.

At the mountain hut we enter the yellow tourist sign and our passage through the gorge begins. The first crossing took place in 1898 by a group of Professor M. Roth, after whom the most beautiful final part of the gorge is named.

We walk up a slight ascent, against the current of the stream that has shaped this splendor.

Soon we come to the section where the gorge shows us in full beauty. We walk on a wooden ladder, on one side we have a high cliff and on the other side a stream. It is an amazing natural scenery.

Trees fallen crosswise across the gorge and cramped spaces. That's what I like most about this wilderness.

Even when such a waterfall appears from time to time, it is not a mistake. The large waterfall is 7 meters high.

Fallen trees, cramped spaces and another waterfall in the foot. We come to a small waterfall with a height of 8.5 meters. Although it is strange to me that a small waterfall is taller than a large waterfall, but this is how I read it on the national park website from which I drew this information. I have to admit, I didn't measure it myself, maybe next time.

We continue our ascent further and in a short while we come to the narrowest part of the Veľký Sokol gorge, to Roth's gorge. What will I describe to you, preferably if you see the photos yourself. It is a beautiful part of the gorge and in some places my hands touch the rock gates on both sides at the same time.

This is what it looks like when a big tree makes your way.

Roth's Gorge is located at the end of the Great Sokol Gorge. I take a few more pictures from the local flora.

The climb is milder, which is a sign that we will soon be on top. We take a break on Glacka cesta. We will get a little stronger and we will have a way back. Following the red tourist route, we continue with a pleasant walk through the forest and meadows to Glac and from there back to Píla.

Slovak Paradise has a unique atmosphere. I always like to come back here in every season and I recommend a visit to every lover of tourism.

Well thank you.

Stromy popadané krížom krážom cez roklinu a stiesnené priestory.

Popadané stromy, stiesnené priestory a v zapätí ďalší vodopád.

Pokračujeme vo svojom stúpaní ďalej a o malú chvíľu prichádzame do najužšej časti rokliny Veľký Sokol, do Rothovej rokliny.

Takto to vyzerá, keď vám veľký strom skýži cestu.
