Late Start To The Training Week
Due to life being a little hectic at the moment, my training week had an extra days rest, giving me both Monday and Tuesday as a rest day. Today, we celebrate New Zealand's national day, Waitangi Day. It celebrates the treaty of Waitangi between native Maori and British settlers back over 200 years ago. Its a little more low key than Australia Day, but we still get a day off, so it's always good to get a sleep in and then take on my training for the day.
Wednesday's are usually my long run for the week, but I am usually by 8am before the Summer heat hits. We had a nice sleep in today, so my usual 16km run was happening during the heat of the day, around noon. Although, it was only about 26 degrees Celcius, it was pretty humid with the sun out for most of the run. It was tough but great to get it done as it was a challenge to get through. Each time I have a challenging run, it feels like I am preparing myself for my races over the coming months.
So happy Waitangi Day and keep running.
Every day is a good day when you run. Kevin Nelson
