Morning Run - Summer?, by @steevc

We had some rain yesterday evening that cooled things down a little and so the grass was damp as I headed out. My legs were feeling a bit tired, but I wanted to run anyway. I had a little swim in our pool on Tuesday and may do so again today.

I did the clockwise Fairfield loop, but was a way off my best time. It took a while to really get going and I was a bit slower generally than my last run, but still okay really. This route has a lot more climbing.

I saw a few runners and a friend who was walking his dogs. Saw the little dog with wheels again.

It may have been my warmest morning run in a while, so it took a while to cool down afterwards. I have my breakfast when I get back. I do not really want to still be sweating when I hit the shower. I let the cold run-off cool me down a bit more in the shower. Then I get some coffee on and head to the study to start work. It will be a bit different once I am back in the office as I will not have the time for these morning runs. If I go back there part-time then that could be optimal. We shall see.

Have a great day!

Run free and stay well.

That is how my wife and I were last summer when we were working from home because of Covid. Sleep in, go for a walk, then go about our day. That hasn't been happening lately. Back to the 4 AM mornings and working out in the basement!

I've not seen some colleagues in over a year. We don't even have webcams for conference calls. It's been a strange time and it will take a while to get used to being around people again.

The last time I worked in an office it was only 2 miles away, and I'd either walk to work or ride my bike. When I rode I'd make a point of riding a few extra miles each way, since there was a shower on site that I could clean myself up in. I do miss that.

Now that I'm working from home (I have for about 5 or 6 years now) I find that it's nicer for me to go out riding at lunch. It's a nice way to break up the day. I might start a morning walk/ride again and spend lunch with my boys over the summer, but that'll depend on if I can get up early enough to do so. I'll admit, it's nice being able to get out of bed by 7 and still have time to start the day.

It's great to have that luxury. I've worked a lot with long commutes, but the current office is only about 10 miles away, so I can cycle it sometimes. It is an easy train journey anyway. I was at least getting exercise walking to the station. It's going to be strange going back regularly.
