Morning Run - Graeme made me do it, by @steevc

It is London Marathon day, but I am not pounding the city streets. Maybe one day. Instead I was out around Arlesey. I was talking to my friend Graeme at parkrun yesterday and he suggested a hill a that was a good workout. I headed towards Stotfold, but turned off to go through a farm where some companies have offices. The main gates were shut, but I could get around those. Once through the farm it is out across the fields. I was not sure where I would cross the stream and tried going left, but realised that would not get me where I wanted to go and so turned back to go the other way. I found the bridge and headed towards the local solar farm.

There is a track up there heading for a lone wind turbine and it is quite a climb. I was struggling a bit near the top, but I made it up there. I decided to head into Langford, but that means running along the road. It can get fairly busy, but the cars gave me room, even when they had to wait a bit to pass. That was mostly downhill. I should have taken some photos as there are good views from up there. There is a little bridge over the railway where a Tesla had to stop as there was not room to pass me. Then it was into the village to pick up the track past the lakes.

That track does suffer from flooding, but was okay today. I saw a couple of white egrets around the lakes and other waterfowl. There were a few people walking and running around there. One guy was geared up for photography with his tripod.

My legs were a bit tired after a second day of running, but not too bad. Some of the last part of the run was on the park course. I may get very used to that. Then it was over the station footbridge to go back through Arlesey. I did not add any extra diversions as I had gone far enough.

I am not sure what is happening with my apps as this run is not showing in Strava, but @exhaust still picked it up.

A guy with a nice looking camera took loads of pictures at parkrun yesterday, so I will include one of those.

Run free and stay well.

Countryside running much more fun seeing bird life, trees and meadows, always beats runs on city roads.

Have a great day keeping healthy in the outdoors.

Cheers. I am lucky to have all this on my doorstep. I try to stay away from the roads, but did have to run along one today. Thanks for the Tipu. That will help towards my next pair of running shoes.

I can confirm this. Nowadays (since 2015) I live in a small dead end village on the Northern Great Plain of Hungary, but I was born (and lived approximately 22 years) in Budapest.

I give you some !PIZZA.

Christ, and I can hardly lift my arse off the chair to cook Sunday dinner. I need to go to the supermarket, and that feels too much like hard work, and there you are, inflicting those legs on society!

@steevc:

Just have to make these things a habit. I don't often go out on a Saturday, but I was up late last night. It was a nice morning to be out there.

You're kind of upstaged by the guy in front - doesn't that volunteer T shirt mean he's done 50 volunteer sessions or something?!? Impressive!

I followed him most of the way to use him as a pacer. Don't know if it was a milestone shirt. I've still not got one, but should get to 50 early next year. I will volunteer more too.

@tdctunes:

Nice one @steevec - keep on running!

I should get back to it after slacking off for the last 4 weeks. I'm more of a 3.5km runner though :)

I feel I need to get out for at least a half hour and I quite enjoy my longer Sunday runs exploring the countryside. Winter is coming though. I try to run all year.

Hi Steve. Your new local parkrun looks good, should be interesting to watch it grow and community build around it. Always a bit of fun to work on your course PB as well. Do you have or is there a rising star affiliate referral link? I have got a couple of days off work and should be able to give it a crack, straight after I try and set up my strava with this exhaust beta and go for a run and look into this pizza thing. So many things to explore on hive!

@steevc:

You are welcome to use my Rising Star link, but I only get one Starbit for each mission you do.

There's lots to explore on Hive. Have fun with it.

Nice run!

@adetorrent:

I'm inspired by the guy in front in that photo with the moobs. LOL. If he can do it, so can I :). My walks are getting easier and more fun, and I feel fitter already. At some point I may escalate it into a run, perhaps once a week, then twice a week. I had no idea it was the London Marathon. Perfect weather for it I guess (cool and not to windy).

avatar
@steevc:

You see all shapes and sizes at parkrun. The quickest ones do tend to be skinny though. I think running helps keep my weight under control.

You can mix running and walking to build up. That's what the Couch to 5k programme does. Running for long periods is hard. Got to get the heart and lungs working to build fitness.

I admire those who can run a marathon. I just don't feel up to that yet. Maybe I should enter one and then I'd have to train for it.
